LOCAL EXPERTS | QUEENSCLIFF
Queenscliff, located on the entrance to Port Phillip Bay, has a lengthy history of sea pilots, who guide ships from across the world through the narrow and treacherous waters of the bay. Such sea pilots have exercised their expertise and knowledge of the local waters since as early as 1839, helping to guide vessels into the ports of Melbourne and Geelong.

One of the many large container vessels which regularly pass through the bay. This vessel, the MSC Laura, is departing the Port of Melbourne en route to Esperance, Western Australia.

Fort Queenscliff, a coastal fortress built in the 1860s to defend the entrance to Port Phillip Bay, which was deemed vulnerable. It was actively manned from 1883 to 1946, with the fort working in conjunction with several other forts along the bay's entrance to form a formidable barrier against the enemy if Port Phillip was invaded.

Swan Hill Bridge
Here is a collection of a few images of the historic Allan truss lift bridge of Swan Hill, which is one of the only two situated along the Murray River. Designed by Percy Allan of Sydney and built by Victorian company Farquharson in 1896, the bridge demonstrated a sophisticated design in form of the Allan trusses and the ability to lift part of the bridge to allow watercraft to pass below. The second operational example on the river is located around 40 kilometers downstream at Tooleybuc.

Images in this album are very 'noisy' due to use of fairly slow lenses in addition to inadequate editing techniques as these images were taken some time ago.
